Taking a Proctorio Exam
You can take your exams from home anytime during your exam dates (deadlines are mountain time). This flexibility in testing is made possible by advanced technology which allows exams to be recorded and analyzed by Proctorio. The tests are then reviewed by a Harman Testing Center employee. So remember—treat the time you are testing as though you were in a testing center!
How do you treat your testing area like a testing center?
Just like in a testing center,
Do NOT*:
- Use headphones
- Use cell phones
- Talk with anyone during the exam
- Use any unauthorized materials
- Leave the view of your webcam
Do:
- Show authorized materials to your webcam
- Blank scratch paper (no notebooks)
- Calculator
- Show your desk space during the Proctorio room scan
What you will need for your exam:
- Valid BYU ID
- Webcam
- Good Internet connection
- Authorized materials before beginning
Getting Started with Proctorio
There is a “Getting Started with Proctorio—Student Guide” that will guide your setup of Proctorio. Included in the tutorial is a short practice quiz you must take before any of your exams. This will guarantee your technology is working and you are familiar with what an exam proctored by Proctorio will look like. Once you have downloaded the plug-in and have taken the practice test, navigate to your exam and click “Take Quiz with Proctorio.”

* If found doing any of the unauthorized activities mentioned above, your exam may be invalid and you may receive a failing grade. Depending on the nature of the activity, you may also be reported to the Honor Code Office. Please be honest in taking your exams.
